	HSJ Editor to present The IAA Lecture 2014

Award winning journalist of the year, Alastair McLellan, editor of Health Service Journal, is to present The IAA Lecture 2014 - Healthcare: A Political, Social and Economic Vision of Tomorrow.

Mr. McLellan is one of the few figures with an independent voice which is listened by the healthcare establishment and politicians from all parties. His comments in HSJ, which are often quoted in Parliament, are that of a pragmatist; for example in July this year he wrote:

"It is much better to realise there are many ways to define and deliver integrated care - and to examine the difficulties and opportunities they represent - than to pretend it is some kind of panacea on which all will agree."

A journalist at heart, he has shown in recent years a talent as a strategist and a business developer with an acute sense of commercial acumen.

When he took over the editorship of the HSJ, the title had a website and little else. Today it is in the forefront of the digital evolution, a point picked up by the judges who named him 2013 'Editor of the Year" in the Periodical Publishing Association's Awards, considered the "Oscars" of the UK magazine sector.

They said: "We unanimously agreed that Alastair McLellan has demonstrated clear leadership and editorial vision. In 2012 he led HSJ through its first major repositioning since the launch of the NHS 64 years earlier, with great success. He is fantastic figurehead for a very well-known title with the courage to not only take a stand, but also a strong point of view."

David Davis, Director, and Independent Ambulance Association, said: "Alasdair McLellan was the obvious choice to present next year's IAA Lecture. His healthcare knowledge coupled with his publishing achievements and his vision for the future, mean his views will make an important contribution to the ongoing debate about the nation's health reforms."

The IAA Lecture, again sponsored by Webasto, will be a held on 9 July 2014 during the Ambulex Exhibition at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
